Sasquatch

6 / 10

A doc that drifts off the main trail onto a dark, eery path of the deep woods. This story was not at all what I had expected. Let's just say, don’t watch this thinking that the spotlight will be on Bigfoot.

Here is one of the latest documentary mysteries surrounding a Sasquatch sighting up in Northern California, told from the personal experience of the documentarian. In some ways, I felt like this filmmaker was trying a little too hard to insert himself into the story. I have seen plenty of documentaries where the narrator takes the lead protagonist role, but the way it was handled in this film was a little unnecessary.

Along with aliens, ghosts, and the Lochness Monster, Big Foot has always been the scary monster roaming in our backyard. Generations and generations have been passed down their scary campfire stories of when sightings occurred, and it has always been a mystery of how little evidence is out there.

I'm so glad that this doc included an interview of the original people who captured the first footage of a Sasquatch on camera. Although the video has been highly questioned and cautioned as fake, it was neat to meet the original hunters and get first-hand accounts.

Although the topic of Sasquatch hunting was pretty straightforward, it appeared to me that the filmmaker got a little lost along the way in his investigative journalism. It seemed that he had to redirect his narrative and search to validate the time spent in pursuit of the woodland creature.

Documentaries that are three episodes need to validate the time needed and there was certainly filler to go on about. This has been a complaint of mine for a couple of other docu-series that the streaming giants have been dropping. Luckily, this docu-series was justified in the total three episode length and I felt that it wrapped nicely.

~ tl;dr ~

Was it good? – Yeah it was ok, but not what I was hoping for.

Date flick? – No not really.
