The Little Things

7.5 / 10

Old cop, who's getting too old for this shit, teaches the young detective how to catch a serial killer and battle his demons.

This film had similar vibes as the movie Se7en with Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, and (dare I say) Kevin Spacey. If you haven’t seen that movie, I'd highly recommend it! It's a fantastic deep and gritty detective story.

Regarding The Little Things, however, I could tell that there was considerable depth in the writing and that it was a well-played murder, mystery noir. There was plenty of symbolism and hidden elements scattered about that I’m sure could be dissected.

Denzel absolutely CRUSHED it, but that's not a surprise to anyone, is it? He always delivers on his roles.

Jared Leto is great at being the creepy guy, am I right? It's almost as if he is typecasted for it. Outside of acting, Leto has had an interesting career to follow - from his band 30 Seconds to Mars or to casually starting a cult in Croatia. If you haven't heard of the cult part, you should Google it or click on that link.

Rami Malick was a fantastic fit for the cop role! He has truly proven his acting chops from previous roles in Mr. Robot and Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm really glad that he is getting more roles since he plays such a stoic and stern sleuth.

After the fact, I heard some backlash about this film and that some people didn't like it. I totally get why people were against it, and I'm glad that I watched it without knowing anything. In my opinion, I was overall pleased with how it all came together.

Although it has an air of predictability, it wasn't. Even though I liked the movie, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. There are stacks of other detective movies that I would recommend over this one.

// tl;dr //

Was it good? – Yeah, it was good, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Date flick? – Nahh… something else!
